So check this out, Hyundai and this other company that’s like really good at making self-driving car tech, they just opened up this new thing called the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), and they’re gonna be making these all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxis there. And get this, these bad boys are gonna be deployed in the US as part of this company’s commercial services starting in 2024.
They’re saying that this IONIQ 5 robotaxi is one of the first SAE Level 4 autonomous vehicles to be certified under the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. That’s a pretty big deal, man. The president and CEO of that other company, Karl Iagnemma, is talking about how rigorous the development and testing was for these vehicles and how advanced the autonomous technology is.
And then the CEO of HMGICS, Hong Bum Jung, is talking about how this new facility is like a hub for future mobility and innovation. They’re all about changing the game when it comes to transportation.
They’re using all this crazy automation and real-time monitoring to push the limits of what’s possible in production. It’s pretty wild, man. And they’ve got a whole team on site to make sure these IONIQ 5 robotaxis meet all the specs and are ready for deployment.
These companies have been working on this for years, testing prototypes and going through all these evaluations. And now, commercial production is underway, with the first models already in the US for testing and safety validation. It’s all leading up to these IONIQ 5 robotaxis hitting the streets in 2024. It’s gonna be nuts.
